Free Time Activities

During our stay in Ireland we had one social night, a bodhran lesson and we also made a few trips to other citys at the weekends.

In the first week, we had a social night on Thursday evening in a small pub called “Cleeres bar”. Everybody who lived in Kilkenny met there. We all had a drink together and talked about our jobs and everything. It was a very nice evening.

At the following weekend all the students went to Dublin together which was organised by the language exchange. The bus collected us at 9:00 am and after about 2 hours we arrived in Dublin. First, we went to the Guinness Storehouse all together. There we saw how Guinness is made. We took a few photos and some of us tasted the Guinness in the Sky Bar. At around 12:30 pm we met at the bus and drove to the city centre. From there we could go on alone and everyone could do what they wanted to. Most of us first ate something and then went shopping. At 17:30 pm we met again at the bus and drove back home.

We also went to Hookhead Lighthouse for a tour, followed by a stop off at Duncannon Beach and Waterford. In Hookhead it was very nice. We were divided into two groups, one group first got a tour of the lighthouse and meanwhile the other group were able to take some pictures and have some food. When both groups were done with the tour we went on to the next stop “Duncannon Beach”. There we relaxed a bit and ate an ice cream before we went on to our last stop “Waterford” which is a small city. In Waterford we had about one hour. So, we ate something and walked around. After that we drove back home.

Furthermore, on the last Sunday we had a Bodhran Lesson. It is a traditional Irish instrument and it is also part of the trip, to do something which is traditional Irish. It was just one hour and we all had much fun.

All in all, we were all happy that we decided to go to Ireland, it was a great experience and we all enjoyed our time there.
