Kilkenny City

Kilkenny is a little city in the southeast Irelands and has around 26 thousand inhabitants. The majority of the population doesn’t live in the city centre, most people prefer staying in the countryside. The town is only 90 minutes away from Dublin and has some incredible attractions which should be visited by everyone at least once in their lifes. The best example is the Kilkenny Castle which is in the city centre and is surrounded by the park. It is also right on the River Nore and was built in 1195. Other attractions are the St. Canice's Cathedral and round tower, Rothe House, St. Mary's Cathedral, Kilkenny Town Hall, and St. John's Priory. But not only therefore is Kilkenny known also the Watergate theatre and museums as well as public parks are important to mention. Kilkenny extends from both sides of the River Nore, so it also has 3 bridges: Green's Bridge, John's Bridge, Lady Desart Bridge. The most typical sport activity in Kilkenny, actually all over Ireland, is hurling. This is played with a stick - which is called Hurley - and a ball. However the ball may be touched with the foot and the hand.

In general it can be said that Kilkenny attracts approximately 385,000.- a year.
